The aim of the Young Woman of the Year Awards is to broaden the knowledge and participation of our youth in the show movement. Entrants are provided with networking opportunities, and the winner will hold their title for a year as well as being an ambassador for our show at the South East sub-chamber judging. Married women, as well as women with children, can now enter the Showgirl Awards after a rule change was accepted by the board of Queensland Ag Shows.

The Showgirl Awards across Queensland is not only for rural women – it seeks the support from 129 Show Societies in both regional and metropolitan areas. 11 State Finalists are selected from hundreds of entrants across the state. They are first selected as their local Showgirl followed by their sub-chamber finals to compete at the State Final held at the Brisbane Royal Show (Ekka).

The Mt Gravatt Show Young Woman of the Year winner is selected for their knowledge, presentation, passion for their community and local show. The competition is not a beauty contest, nor is it an “intelligence” test: it is for young Queensland women to raise the profile of Queensland Shows ambassadors. The awards provide an opportunity to excel in leadership, community involvement and build confidence.

The journey and experience of being The Mt Gravatt Show Young Woman of the Year doesn’t stop there. After our show you will be invited to attend the QCAS South East QLD Sub-Chamber finals, which is generally held in April the following year. From here the winner will join the other State Finalists (11 in total) to attend the State Final which is held at the Brisbane Royal Show (EKKA).

The winner from this event is then invited to attend the National Showgirl competition held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The winners of the award will be expected to attend the 2026 Mt Gravatt Show, set down for Saturday & Sunday, 25 & 26 July 2026, and participate in the formal and informal procedures over the two days, alongside the Junior Show Ambassador and the Rural Ambassador.

1. Mt Gravatt Show Young Woman Award – female, aged from 18 to 28 years inclusive as of the 1st August in the year of competition. (Entrants can be married or have children) The Awards are open to women born in Australia or Australia Citizens.
2. Entrants will have their photo published in the local paper and the other publicity for the show.
3. Entry form to be emailed and submitted to ambassadors@mtgravattshow.com.au no later than the closing date 31st May 2026.
4. Judges’ decision is final, and no further correspondence will be entered into.

• Judging will take place Saturday 6th June
• Presentations to be held on Saturday 13th June.

All entrants must complete a Nomination Form and submit all required documents to the Local Agricultural Show you are competing in prior to the Judging Date. This form will be used for Local and Sub Chamber competitions.

LOCAL SHOW – The Show Society Secretary or designated coordinator is to forward the Local Show Winner and Runner Up Entry Form & required documents to Sub Chamber Secretary for processing within 14 days of the competition conclusion. Please keep a copy for your records.

SUB CHAMBER FINALS – The Sub Chamber Secretary is to forward Sub Chamber Finals Winner and Runner up Entry Form and required documents to the Queensland Ag Shows Head Office competitions department within 48 hours of competition conclusion to qualify for State Finals.
